| Steve was born in New Haven, CT., he grew up in the Baybrook area of West Haven where at the age of 7 took up blue crabbing and salt water fishing in the Oyster River. At the age of 11 he moved to Meriden, CT., where he attended Maloney High School. Steve was very active in sports and played receiver for the football team. He also ran track and field where he excelled in sprinting and broke two school records. After Graduating in 1984, Steve joined The United States Marine Corps. Steve went to Parris Island S.C., where he graduated top of his Platoon with Honors and received an early promotion. Steve was assigned to 8th and I Marine Barracks Washington D.C., to the Presidential Guard Unit. He was honored to Guard President Reagan, Vice President Bush, First Lady Nancy Reagan and the Commandant of The Marine Corps. He was also part of the Untied Nations Detail in New York City, where he was assigned to Guard George Shultz and many diplomats. Steve then returned to Camp Lejeune, to further his Marine Corps Training. He was assigned duty in Fort Sam Houston Texas, training military doctors on combat techniques and hand-to-hand combat tactics. In the fall of 1986, Steve went to Panama for intense Jungle training. Where he was trained in jungle survival and jungle combat techniques. In 1987 Steve received an Honorable Discharge from the USMC. He then joined the family trade of tile and stone work with his father and 2 brothers. In 1989 Steve Became Secretary Of Local 65 Tile finishers and Stone Workers Union. Steve has always been an avid fisherman and in the early 1990s he wanted to start mounting his own fish. This is where he began Taxidermy. He apprenticed with another taxidermist, eventually opening his shop in the fall of His shop grew every year and new challenges came with every new season. By this time Steve had taken up Waterfowling and his respect for the outdoors grew with every season. By early 1996 Steve had quit stonework and became a full time taxidermist. In 1999 Steve became a father when he and his wife adopted their daughter Emily from South Korea. In 2001 Steve started competing at Taxidermy Competitions. Since this time he has won over 35 Major awards and 40 Blue ribbons. He is a member of 5 different state organizations and a lifetime member of The National Taxidermists Association. He is currently the Vice President Of The New England Association Of Taxidermists. Steve is very active with the outdoors and studies all fields of hunting and fishing along with species and anatomy. He is an avid fisherman and a seasoned watefowl hunter who enjoys mostly sea duck hunting as well as turkey and whitetail deer. He also enjoys training his dog Drake for waterfowl and shed antler hunting. His studies of wildlife and the art of taxidermy are never ending. He enjoys the friendships he has made in the industry and he strives to teach younger generations the values and rewards of taxidermy and the great outdoors. |
